Using a glue gun for wax seals is faster than a spoon and a candle, and for anything over about twenty seals it is the only sensible method. But the gun matters, and a standard craft glue gun will actively ruin your wax.<\/p>\n
Craft glue guns run hot \u2014 typically 190\u00b0C or more \u2014 because hot-melt adhesive needs that temperature to flow. Sealing wax does not. Wax starts to scorch well below that, and scorched wax turns brown, smells burnt and loses its colour depth. Gold goes muddy, red goes brown, white goes cream.<\/p>\n
Worse, hot wax left sitting in an over-hot nozzle degrades between seals, so the twentieth seal looks worse than the first.<\/p>\n
Look for a low-temperature gun, usually marketed around 110\u2013130\u00b0C. Adjustable dual-temperature guns are better still \u2014 you can dial down further for pale colours, which scorch most visibly.<\/p>\n
Sealing wax sticks come in two widths: 7mm and 11mm. Match your gun to your wax, not the other way round. Most sealing wax sold for guns is 7mm, so a mini gun is usually correct.<\/p>\n
Do not alternate between glue and wax in the same gun. Residual adhesive contaminates the wax, and the mixture never sets cleanly. A second cheap gun costs less than the wax you will waste.<\/p>\n
Wax is runnier than glue and will drip. A gun that stands upright and has a nozzle guard saves your table.<\/p>\n
Use a gun<\/strong> for volume: wedding invitations, packaging, anything over twenty seals. Faster, more consistent, less mess.<\/p>\n Use a spoon and candle<\/strong> for small batches and when you want the softer, slightly irregular edge that a poured seal gives.
