How to Use Heatless Curlers: Overnight Curls Step by Step
Waking up with soft, bouncy curls — without touching a curling iron — comes down to one simple overnight ritual. Here’s exactly how to use a heatless curling ribbon, step by step.
What you need
A silky heatless curling ribbon (satin or silk), two scrunchies, and slightly damp hair. Satin matters: it lets hair glide instead of snagging, so you get smooth curls and no frizz.
Step 1: Start with 80% dry hair
Heatless curls set best on hair that is mostly dry with a hint of moisture. Fully wet hair won’t dry overnight; bone-dry hair won’t hold the shape. Mist lightly if needed.
Step 2: Position the ribbon
Place the center of the ribbon on top of your head like a halo, letting both ends fall in front of your shoulders.
Step 3: Wrap away from your face
Take a section of hair and wrap it around the ribbon, moving away from your face, adding more hair with each turn — like a loose French twist around the ribbon. Keep tension gentle: tight wrapping means tighter curls but less comfort.
Step 4: Secure and sleep
Tie off each end with a satin scrunchie. Sleep as usual — the ribbon is soft enough for side sleepers.
Step 5: The morning reveal
Unwrap slowly, flip your head, and separate curls with fingers (never a brush). A drop of hair oil adds gloss. Done — heatless curls that last all day.
How long does it take?
Wrapping takes 3–5 minutes once you’ve done it twice. Compare that to 30 minutes with a curling iron — plus zero heat damage.
