Construction: how the pleats work

- One-sitting scale. Approximately 6 cm. One ball of yarn makes four dumplings.

Here is the trick, and it is almost embarrassingly simple: work the same dumpling in OFF-WHITE, skip the pleat crisping, add the surface-crocheted ghost face from the variant page — and you have a 6 cm ghost with a pleated skirt. It is the best-performing shelf photo we tested all summer: dumpling-ghost next to dumpling-ghost, a shelf of them, each one a one-evening object.

The approach (SageandSilky method)
- Read the PDF once before you start. Most failed projects fail at the stitch-count step, not the yarn step. Short rows especially: the turning points are the pattern.
- Make a gauge swatch. A 4-inch square saves a 40-hour project. On a 6 cm object, gauge is the difference between a dumpling and a slightly sad bread roll.
- Crisp the pleats with blocking, not tighter tension. Over-tensioning short rows curls the fabric. The two-sentence blocking note is the difference between “dumpling” and “wrinkle.”
- Photograph the finished piece in natural light. The MOD Nº number belongs on the cover of the project, not buried in a drawer.
